Things To Consider Before Booking Your Interior or Architectural Photography Shoot
Interior and Architectural photography involve more than just the technical expertise of a skilled photographer. Various external elements can also influence the final outcome, such as unpredictable Indian weather conditions or forecasts and sudden building maintenance work that alters the visual appearance of the structure. Although these factors cannot always be controlled, careful planning can help attain optimal results for photography assignments. To assist clients in preparing for their architectural or interior photo shoots, We have compiled a concise checklist that should be considered before you plan your next shoot…
Weather & Lighting
To achieve the best possible architectural photographs, optimal lighting and weather conditions are essential. Before visiting a site, We determine the sun's position, so it's important to identify and mention the elevations that need to be captured in the brief provided by the client. The length of the shoot will depend on this, so access to the building must be flexible. However, certain factors such as the time of year and shadows cast by surrounding structures may affect the amount of light that specific elevations receive. In some cases, dusk shots may be necessary for exterior photos to showcase certain design features. If this is required, please inform us in advance.
Interior photography may be done on both sunny and cloudy days, depending on the characteristics of the space. If both the interior and exterior of the building need to be photographed, it may be necessary to schedule multiple days to capture both aspects. Additionally, if there are deadlines for obtaining the images and if optimal weather and lighting conditions are crucial for the client, Kindly consider the possibility of rescheduling the shoot, which may require additional time.
Site Condition
Determining whether a building is ready for photography can be subjective and may vary depending on whom you ask. Contractors and architects may have differing opinions. To ensure the best results from the photography, all relevant aspects of the building should be clean, accessible, and free of any visual obstructions.
Even after a building is complete, there may still be ongoing work at ground level, such as landscaping and utility installation. In the case of a phased development, surrounding buildings may not be finished, and construction work may still be taking place. Failure to account for these factors prior to the shoot can limit the scope of the images we can capture and impact the quality of the final photos. Therefore, it would be beneficial to obtain an up-to-date report from someone on-site before scheduling the photography, if possible.
Site Access
It is essential to obtain relevant permission to access the building prior to the scheduled photography session. Building managers and security staff may not permit unauthorized individuals onto the premises, making it crucial to notify all parties involved in both interior and exterior photo shoots beforehand.
Brief
To meet the client's expectations and ensure their desired outcome from the photography, it's crucial to include any special requirements in the brief. While our intuition and experience guide our approach to architectural/interior photography, there may be specific aspects or details of the space or structure that the client wants to capture that could be overlooked otherwise. Therefore, please include any specific requests or requirements in the brief to ensure their inclusion in the final images.
